The Victorian Government had released the draft Statewide Waste and Resource Recovery Infrastructure Plan (SWRRIP) for Victoria and the draft Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery Strategic Plan (MWRRSP) for Melbourne.
Both plans are an important milestone in implementing the Getting Full Value: Victoria’s Waste and Resource Recovery Policy – an initiative by the Victoria Government that was released in April 2013.
“Getting Full Value outlines the Victorian Government’s intention to develop a statewide waste and resource recovery infrastructure plan to improve long term strategic waste planning,” said Acting Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Peter Walsh.
The Draft plans are released to prepare for Victoria’s growing population and maximise the economic return from our waste materials through more sophisticated planning.
“The draft SWRRIP provides a 30 year roadmap for government and industry investment opportunities to improve Victoria’s waste management and resource recovery infrastructure network.
“It maps the long term trend in waste generation, and population and waste infrastructure at a statewide scale, and will help Victoria realise our ambitious vision to maximise the productive value of resources” said Mr Walsh.
Submissions are invited on both draft plans from industry, local government, the community and other stakeholders. The final document is expected for release in 2014.
Feedback is required on the draft SWRRIP by 6 December 2013; and the draft MWRRSP by 25 November 2013.
