The Federal Government is currently seeking applicants for funding under the Emerging Renewables Program which provides support for the development of renewable energy and enabling technologies in Australia across the innovation chain.
The program is administered by the Australian Centre for Renewable Energy (ACRE).
Applicants may apply at any time for funding as there is no cut off date or set funding rounds (subject to program funds available).
Successful applicant – Bluescope Steel
At a recent announcement, Bluescope Steel was awarded funding of $2.3 million under the Emerging Renewables Program for placing low cost solar power into residential and commercial rooftop design. Bluescope will develop a new roofing profile that joins Australian steel roofing and inverter systems with international second-generation thin-film solar technologies. It provides for the simultaneous installation of roofing and solar technology and allows new buildings to adopt the design. The technology will be capable of generating energy for the electricity grid.
Other successful applicants for funding under the Program have been – BioPower Systems, Oceanlinx Limited, Carnegie Wave Energy, National ICT Australia, Qantas Airways, Waratah Power, University of Melbourne.
Procedure for applying for funding
From 1 July 2012, applications received for funding under the Emerging Renewables Program will be considered by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) Board.
The Program is merit-based and provides grants in two funding categories:
- ACRE Projects, and
- ACRE Measures.
