The Clean Energy Regulator has today published the first phase of the Liable Entities Public Information Database (LEPID) that announces the first 248 liable entries who will participate in the carbon pricing mechanism.
Clean Energy Regulator Chair, Chloe Munro said “these entities account for around 70% of emissions covered by the carbon pricing mechanism”.
“Liable entities are identified through emissions reporting under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 and natural gas suppliers.
“Under the Clean Energy Act 2011, the Clean Energy Regulator is required to publish a list of entities that are likely to be liable under the carbon pricing mechanism.
Entities will be included in the LEPID if the Clean Energy Regulator has reasonable grounds to believe they are, or are likely to be, liable entities because they meet criteria specified under the Clean Energy Act 2011 within a financial year.
The Clean Energy Regulator advised that their “focus is on providing education and training to help entities understand and meet their statutory obligations”.
“The LEPID will be updated as the Clean Energy Regulator receives information about changes in entities’ particular circumstances. Additional entities will be added to the LEPID after further consultation with landfill operators, transfers of liability under provisions of the Clean Energy Act 2011 and entities choose to opt into the carbon pricing mechanism from 1 July 2013.”
