INTERMEDIATE LEVEL Workshop

New Victorian Dangerous Goods regulations are set to come into effect on 1 December 2012.

A number of significant changes have taken place in the past 10 months that relate to the safe STORAGE, HANDLING AND TRANSPORT of dangerous goods and hazardous chemicals across Australia. Organisations have an obligation to ensure they are up to date and compliant with these changes, and that staff receive appropriate training.

On 1 January 2012, the new model Work Health and Safety laws (WHS Act and Regulations) commenced in New South Wales, Queensland, the Australian Capital Territory, the Commonwealth and Northern Territory. Jurisdicational progress on implementing the model work health and safety laws has been delayed in other states.

For those jurisdictions which have already implemented the new WHS laws, the changes will impact on the way you STORE, HANDLE AND TRANSPORT dangerous goods and hazardous chemicals within those States and Territories.

With reference to Victoria, Worksafe Victoria had recently published its draft workplace safety laws that relate to the safe handling of dangerous goods. The proposed draft Dangerous Goods (Storage & Handling) Regulations 2012 are currently out for public comment. Its planned implementation date is 1 December 2012. The draft Victorian regulations will be covered in this workshop.

The AEBN recommends that staff receive refresher training every 2 to 3 years.

Please note: The Victorian Workshop will cover the Federal and Victorian laws and requirements. The NSW Workshop will cover the Federal and NSW laws and requirements.
