A manufacturing company has entered into an Enforceable Undertaking with the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) to contribute $200,000 to a local environmental project following a water pollution incident.
In March 2019, the company reported to NSW EPA the collapse at its premises of a 180,000 litre tank containing wastewater. Some of the wastewater entered the local stormwater system and a creek catchment.
Under the terms of the Enforceable Undertaking, the company will pay $200,000 to the local Council to fund an environmental audit program which will benefit the local area through audits of local commercial and industrial facilities for compliance with environmental legislation.
In addition, the company has undertaken to pay NSW EPA’s investigation and legal costs of $42,000 and make improvements to its premises, including equipment.
The Enforceable Undertaking also requires the company to make changes to its policies and procedures, as well as place notices of the Enforceable Undertaking in local media.
