A number of funding commitments for the protection of the Queensland environment were announced in Tuesday’s budget. These include:
- $21.7 million (as part of $100 million over five years) for the Great Barrier Reef for protection initiatives including water quality, research and industry assistance measures to reduce impacts.
- $6.8 million (over four years) to develop and implement a climate change strategy for Queensland.
- $3.87 million (over three years) allocated for the protection of unique environments activities.
- $89.1 million package for wildlife management and protection, including provisions for koala conservation, crocodile management, wildlife management, flying fox management, the RSPCA and managing protected areas.
