The Federal Department of Environment (DE) has released the Quarterly Update of Australia’s National Greenhouse Gas Inventory: December 2015.
The report provides estimates of Australia’s national inventory up to the December quarter of 2015.
Australia’s annual emissions for the year to December 2015 are estimated to be 535.7 Mt CO2-e. This figure is the third lowest emissions level since the year to December 2000. It is also 2.5 per cent below emissions in the year to December 2000 (549.6 Mt CO2 -e), and 9.5% below emissions in the year to December 2005 (591.9 Mt CO2 -e).
Emissions per capita and the emissions intensity of the economy, including the Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry sector, were both at their lowest levels in 26 years in the year to December 2015. Emissions per capita have fallen 30.6 per cent since 1990, while the emissions intensity of the economy has fallen 55.1 per cent since 1990 (Figure P1) states the report.
The DE has also released the following inventory reports:
- National Inventory Report 2014 and Revised Kyoto Protocol National Inventory Report 2013; and
- Australia’s Initial Report – Australia’s Report to Facilitate the Calculation of the Assigned Amount pursuant to Article 3, paragraphs 7bis, 8 and 8bis, of the Kyoto Protocol for the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol.
