The Federal Department of Environment has released the Quarterly Update of Australia’s National Greenhouse Gas Inventory: September 2015.
The report provides estimates of Australia’s national inventory up to the September quarter of 2015.
Australia’s annual emissions for the year to September 2015, including the land sector, are estimated to be 549.6 Mt CO2-e. This figure is the second lowest emissions level since the year to September 2000 (558.7 Mt CO2-e). Emissions for the year to September 2015 were 1.6 per cent below emissions in the year to September 2000 and 8.7 per cent below emissions in the year to 2005 (602.3 Mt CO2-e)
Emissions per capita and the emissions intensity of the economy, including the Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry sector, were both at their lowest levels in 26 years in the year to September 2015. Emissions per capita have fallen 28.6 per cent since 1990, while the emissions intensity of the economy has fallen 53.4 per cent since 1990, states the report.
