The NSW EPA has issued a clean up notice to a commercial explosives manufacturer after contaminated process water leaked from its site onto a neighbouring farm in February 2015.
The owner of the farm reported five cattle deaths and subsequent sample results collected from the farm dam showed Nitrate concentrations in excess of 2,000 mg/L.
The clean up notice, issued on Thursday 19 March 2015, instructs the company to undertake clean up / remediation works on all areas of the farm property impacted by contaminated water discharged from the premises on or about 18 February 2015 to 25 February 2015.
It must also, by no later than 8 April 2015, provide a report on the extent of harm to the farm property including impacts on surface water, soils and vegetation and options for clean-up, remediation and monitoring of affected areas.
The NSW EPA will vary the notice, or issue a new clean-up notice to require the completion of clean up, remediation works and validation monitoring.
