Report on the review of Contaminated Sites Act – Tabled in parliament

WA Environment Minister Albert Jacob has tabled a report in parliament on the review of the Contaminated Sites Act 2003.

As part of its response to the review, the WA Department of Environment Regulation has revised and updated its contaminated sites guidelines and fact sheets.

Land owners, occupiers and polluters are required to report all known or suspected contaminated sites to DER. Reported sites are assessed and classified by DER (in consultation with Department of Health), based on the risks posed to the community and environment.

Environmental consultants will now be advised to inform their clients of their legal obligation to report any known or suspected contaminated site as soon as contamination is identified.

Questions regarding the report can be directed to the WA Department of Environment Regulation at info@der.wa.gov.au or telephone 08 6467 5000.
