Community Energy Efficiency Grants Program

East Arnhem Shire Council has undertaken an energy efficiency street light replacement project in 9 of its Shire’s remote Indigenous communities in Arnhem Land.  The Council replaced 509 mercury vapour street lights with energy efficiency LED street lights which is expected to have significant cost savings estimated to be $25,000 each year.

The Shire was assisted by a Federal Government grant – Community Energy Efficiency Grants Program (CEEP) of approx $200,000 for the installation.

The $200 million CEEP initiative, funded as part of the Low Carbon Communities program is also helping to inform the community about the benefits of smart energy use, while providing improved services and amenities to buildings and community facilities.

Round 2 applications are currently being assessed.
